The Toni Piëch Foundation is pleased to share its 2025 Annual Report, now available for download. The report reflects a year full of transitions, with several long-running collaborations wrapping up and new ones taking their place, including opening a new chapter on Artificial Intelligence and its societal impacts.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE FOUNDATION

2025 was an exciting year for TPF. The new regranting organization ASSEMBLE took shape, a funding platform for the future of cities and sustainable construction. ASSEMBLE works to make affordable, emissions-free, and resilient buildings the norm, aligning funders behind a shared strategy and scaling action through collaborative grantmaking. TPF was involved in the initiative early on and continues to support it, and sees it as an attractive entry point for philanthropy to engage with the Built Environment.

The year also brought several partnerships to a close or into their final stage. TPF concluded its three-year collaborations with Bauhaus Earth and CORRECTIV, and entered the final phase of its multi-annual work with ETH Zürich on the City Energy Analyst. With Bauhaus Earth, the highlight was completing the “Building for the Future” collection, capped by the Changemaker’s Guide for multi-stakeholder collaboration in cities. CORRECTIV’s “(Don’t) demolish Switzerland” investigation delivered the first public data on the scale of Swiss demolition and seeded a lasting anti-demolition network. And the City Energy Analyst reached a new milestone with CEA-4, its most accessible and powerful version to date, now available also as a web-based tool.

LOOKING TOWARDS CHALLENGES POSED BY AI

TPF's work on the future of cities and buildings is gaining momentum as the sector moves toward the center of political debate worldwide. In many cities, residents feel the strain of unaffordable housing and its exposure to climate stress day to day, and how solutions are communicated will matter as much as the solutions themselves. This is where artificial intelligence enters the picture. It's reshaping the tools of communication and storytelling, and its broader social effects, from job losses to friction in democratic life, are likely to land first and hardest in cities. That is why TPF is proud to work with the Center for Humane Technology on understanding AI risks, mitigating them, and raising public awareness. It marks a new chapter for the foundation, one that began in 2025.
