The task of stopping climate change sometimes feels too heavy. One crisis report follows the next, and on some days you just feel powerless. However, there are also developments that give us hope. And inspire action.
One of those is the commitment of the Foundations Platform F20: Established in 2017 in the run-up to the G20 summit in Hamburg, F20 brings together more than 80 philanthropic players worldwide, locally anchored within one of the G20 countries to promote transnational cooperation. And to advocate for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement, F20 acts as a bridge builder between non-state actors from civil society and companies, politicians and think tanks – within and between the G20 countries, but also beyond.
A PLACE FOR STRATEGIC COOPERATION
The platform sees itself as a place for strategic cooperation on the topics of climate change, renewable energies and the increasing restrictions on civil society in many places. To address these issues, F20 focuses on global exchange and the sharing of learning experiences between foundations.
TRANSFORMATION IS POSSIBLE
The message of F20: The transformation of our economies and societies in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement is possible. Existing low-carbon success stories serve as good examples of sustainable development in the field of climate action and need to be recognized more globally as they also reduce the risk of major impacts of a warmer world. In addition, governments need to significantly strengthen and improve policy frameworks. Civil society organizations must be able to contribute to and participate in this process and be part of the solution.
NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND
How exactly can these goals be realized? Every year at the G20 summit, the platform explains new ideas and examples on how foundations can get involved successfully. At the G20 summit in New Delhi in 2023, a concrete list of recommendations to the G20 Heads of State was presented – advocating for joint and ambitious action to deliver on intersectional climate action in the spirit of leaving no one behind. The Toni Piëch Foundation also shares this vision and the ambition to set the wheels in motion. That is why the TPF is pleased to support the Foundations Platform F20 with CHF 15,000. When we all share our knowledge and skills, we can achieve a great deal as a community. And that is good news.
